It was with these words that Memorial Day, originally known as Decoration Day, was officially started. It is a day for Americans to honor those who gave their lives for the freedoms we cherish.
With the start of the holiday weekend, let us take time to remember loved ones, comrades in arms, neighbors and strangers who have fallen. We owe a great debt of gratitude to those who sacrificed their lives so that we can live free.
